At Community Driving School C.I.C. (CDS), we believe that driving is more than just a skill – it's a gateway to opportunity and empowerment. Our mission is to make this transformative skill accessible to everyone, especially those facing financial challenges or barriers to employment.
Our Mission Objective
Formed in 2016 by director John Nicholson, our aim is clear: to break down the barriers that prevent individuals on low incomes, the unemployed, young carers, and students from accessing job opportunities previously out of reach. We understand the life-changing impact of driving – it offers freedom, mobility, and access to employment opportunities previously beyond grasp.
The Community-Driven Mission
Our unique Community Driven Project is at the heart of our mission. We provide bespoke driver training, paired with community-based work experience, to those who may not have had the means to obtain a driving license otherwise. By offering a minimum of 40 hours of driver training in exchange for 40 hours of community-based work, we instill a sense of pride and respect in our students for what they have earned.
John's Story: Driving Force Behind Our Mission
John Nicholson, our founder, understands firsthand the challenges of overcoming financial hardship. Raised on a council estate in South London, he knows the value of a driving license in today's world. His passion for helping others improve their situations drives our mission forward. As John says, "If CDS was available when I was young, it would have made life a lot easier for me." We are committed to making that difference for others.
Our Vision for Growth
Looking ahead, we envision expanding our reach beyond our current community. Our goal is to become a franchise, bringing our unique offering to communities across the UK. By doing so, we aim to break down barriers to employment and empower individuals nationwide to seize opportunities and improve their lives through driving.
